This is 12-year-old Dieudina’s first time in school. She is soaking up everything!

This is 12-year-old Dieudina with her teacher, Mr. Belizaire. Dieudina is the only one of six siblings who still lives at home. Her dad is dying of prostate cancer. Her mom already passed away, so she’s the main caretaker. She fetches water, sweeps, cooks, and washes clothes – all before she goes to school in the morning!

Dieudina had never been to school before because her dad was too poor to pay the fees to enroll. But now she’s in a free, Cross International-funded program designed for older first-timers like her. It’s run by MEBSH, a network of Haitian churches.  “I like school!” she said. Her favorite part: “When the teacher makes us write and shows us new things.”

Mr. Belizaire told us how bright his students are. “I can see they are energized…These kids now need your prayers to help them succeed!”
