Images from Southern Haiti

As someone who has been traveling to Haiti for four years ‘s — and who has witnessed the incredible resilience of that country’s people — it is impossible for me to be objective about the impact of Hurricane Matthew. Almost 10 months have passed since the killer storm battered Haiti’s southern peninsula, and there are areas in Haiti that look as if they were hit yesterday.

The short attention span of the world’s media outlets only magnifies this problem. Their interest has shifted light years away, putting the plight of the Haitian people “out of sight, out of mind.” There is no one to blame for this — it is simply a fact. And it creates incredible challenges for a charity like Cross.

Just a couple of weeks ago, I visited our partners along the southern coast, and I believe the Lord is calling me to share what I saw. It devastated me, and I hope it touches your heart too.

Ten months later, and people are still living under tarps.
