Finding family at Casa Bernabe

Cross International staff recently dropped in on our friends at the Casa Bernabe orphanage in Guatemala. One resident, 18-year-old Marisol Ramos, graciously took some time to share her testimony of how God has blessed her during her seven years at the Christian shelter.

Recalling the loneliness and lack of love she felt as a child in a poor, broken family – often left in the care of her grandmother and unable to go to school – Marisol bluntly told us, “I had no dreams before I came to Casa Bernabe.”

By contrast, she said, “My life totally changed when I came to Casa Bernabe. All the bad in my life went away. I am happy now. I have learned so much about God. I have Christ in my heart, and I no longer feel alone.”

Today, Marisol helps take care of the babies and prepare meals at Casa Bernabe, while continuing her education and dreaming of someday becoming a professional chef. She loves her Christian teachers, who she considers her friends because they care about her progress and they encourage her to share her struggles and concerns. “I learned here what it was like to have a family,” she said. “I feel like the other girls here are my sisters. I love it here. I have a family here.”

Please keep the Casa Bernabe orphanage in your prayers, as financial difficulties in a struggling economy have been straining our partner’s resources. Cross is as committed as ever to supporting their important work, so their doors can remain open to Guatemala’s orphans and vulnerable children.
