Mothers are one of God’s greatest gifts to children. Where would any of us be without our mothers’ love, care and affection? That’s why when a mother struggles, her child struggles too.
Raising kids is a tough job — and it’s especially tough when a mom feels crushed by poverty. How can she nurture her sons and daughters when there’s no food to eat and no clean water to drink?
Cross International is working with overseas Christian ministries to empower struggling mothers burdened by economic hardship as well as domestic abuse. When you give a mother a way to supplement her income with a small home business, or spare her from spending hours of her day just fetching dirty water, you also help her kids. They’ll eat better, they’ll feel safer, they’ll get sick less often, their school attendance will improve, and they’ll be able to reach for their dreams!
HERE ARE SOME WAYS YOUR GENEROUS GIFT WILL BLESS AND EQUIP WOMEN AROUND THE WORLD:
In Guatemala, women and children victimized by domestic violence have little recourse. To save them from this brutality, a group of Christian women run a safe house, Casa de Vida, where mothers and their children can live in anonymity while they piece their broken lives back together. Casa de Vida depends on Cross International to help keep its doors open to families in desperate need.
Cross International is partnering with this Guatemalan outreach to extend Christ’s love to families suffering from extreme malnutrition. Starving infants and their mothers, who often can’t breastfeed due to their own malnourishment, are transported to an emergency center where the babies’ lives are saved and the mothers are equipped with formula and training to better care for their children.
In Uganda, we are working to rescue at-risk girls from dangerous and damaging influences and set them on a path to a prosperous future. Cross funds support volunteer counselors and pay to rent a facility for an enrichment center with the goal of helping girls avoid drug use and promiscuity, excel in their studies and pursue a relationship with God.
We’ve got good news for Ugandan women who spend hours fetching water from shallow wells while carrying babies on their backs: clean, abundant water is coming! Cross is working with the Kachere Development Program to install hand-pump wells that will make it easier than ever to get a drink of water and will protect families from the threat of waterborne illness.
Proceeds from this campaign will be used to cover expenditures incurred through June 30, 2020, the close of our ministry’s fiscal year. In the event that more funds are raised than needed to fully fund our Thriving Kids projects worldwide, the excess funds, if any, will be used to meet the most urgent needs of the ministry.
