A Canadian in Guatemala

David McCormick

One way to cut the cost of international travel is to nix the return flight.

David McCormick, a 27-year-old Canadian, went to Guatemala on a mission trip and never came home. Instead he found a new life with Cross International partner Casa Bernabe, which provides shelter for orphaned, abandoned and abused children.

David serves as a social worker for the children and as the worship pastor at the ministry’s church. He has also been a math teacher at the Casa Bernabe school, which receives support from Cross.

David praises the dedication of his fellow teachers. He says, “They care about the children’s futures. They aren’t just in it for the money. They have a vision for their students.”

That vision is what keeps David in Guatemala. “I appreciate the spiritual aspect of Casa Bernabe. It is woven into everything they do, and you can see the impact in the kids.”
