180-Degree Transformation

I was really fortunate to visit the Kaibigan (“Friend”) Ministry, a partner we support in the Philippines. This ministry transforms the lives of homeless “street dwellers” with a holistic, multi-phased, sustained program of intervention. The program brings them into mainstream society empowered with the skills and resources to be self supporting.  It’s explicitly based on the transforming power of Jesus Christ and connection with a loving Christian fellowship.

Anyway, I got to meet a lot of people whose lives had made a 180 as a result of this ministry. Here’s a testimony from one of them:

“When I was in the streets, I had learned so many evil ways—drugs, alcohol, robbery, gambling—and I lived by this rule: Be strong, be brave, and trust no one. While being discipled at the Kaibigan Community Center, I learned that Jesus could forgive me of all my sins and cleanse me of all my evil ways; and I began to claim Hebrews 10:19, which says, ‘We have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus.’ Little by little my life has changed for the better. Before, I could trust no one. Now I can trust the Lord!” (Romeo, age 41)
